Dial-Up Problems

Q: My modem dials but doesn't connect

A: This problem can be caused by a number of things but the main cause is a noisy phone line. Usually this can be solved by replacing the phone cord that comes from the wall to the computer. Long cords, greater than 20 ft, can also degrade signal quality.

Q: My modem dials and then disconnects with a network error

A: This is usually caused by an bad network configuration. Check to see if you have TCP/IP installed in the Windows network control panel.

Q: My modem dials and connects, but keeps asking me for my username and password

A: Check to see if you are typing you username and password in EXACTLY as it was given to you. Remember that these are case sensitive, so make sure that your caps lock is off. Also, make sure you aren't entering any spaces before or after the username or password.

Q: I keep getting disconnected after three hours

A: In order to keep the phone lines open, D&D Net has a three hour login session policy. In other words, you can only be logged in for three consecutive hours at a time. If you do get disconnected, you can always try to reconnect.

Q: If I leave my computer sit for fifteen minutes I get disconnected

A: If you leave your computer connected to the internet and don't use it, that means a phone line is kept busy but not actually being used. In order to keep all the phone lines open and available for other customers, our equipment is programmed to hang up the inactive line after fifteen minutes.

Email Problems

Q: When I check my email, it keeps asking me for my username and password

A: Check to see if you are typing you username and password in EXACTLY as it was given to you. Remember that these are case sensitive, so make sure that your caps lock is off. Also, make sure you aren't entering any spaces before or after the username or password.

Q: When I check my email, Outlook Express stops downloading

A: This is a problem with older versions of Outlook Express. Make sure you have version 4.01 or higher.

Surfing Problems

Q: I'm connected but I can't get any webpages to come up

A: The first thing to do in this case is to try to load D&D Net's webpage www.dvdol.com. If that works, see the question below. If not, there is a configuration problem with your computer. Please contact us to resolve the problem.

Q: I'm connected but I can only see the D&D Net homepage

A: In this situation, check the D&D Net homepage status indicator in the bottom right hand corner. If either the Router or T1 Connection are displayed as 'offline', then we are probably experiencing a network outage. Usually these situations are resolved within a few hours or less.
